Packers player Jordan Love led off the field after apparent leg injury

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was unable to finish Friday’s season-opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles after sustaining an apparent injury to his left lower leg with six seconds left in the 34-29 loss in São Paulo.

Love needed help getting to the sideline, and although he was able to move a little better on the way to the locker room after the game, he still needed the support of head coach Nate Weir and running back Josh Jacobs under each of his arms.

Coach Matt LaFleur was asked twice about Love’s status in his postgame press conference and said both times, “I don’t know.”

Love did not speak to reporters after the game.

Love tried to get the Packers on one final drive. After a 33-yard pass to Jayden Reed that brought the Packers to their 49-yard line, Love dropped back to pass on the next play, was hit by two Eagles defenders – defensive tackle Jalen Carter and outside linebacker Josh Sweat – and seemingly twisted his leg on the way to the ground just as he was able to throw the ball behind him to Jacobs.

Malik Willis, who the Packers acquired from the Titans in a trade last week, took the game’s final two snaps — an incomplete pass and a sack. The only other quarterback currently under contract with the Packers is Sean Clifford, last year’s backup who was released last month as part of the latest round of layoffs but re-signed to the practice squad.

Love was injured in his first regular-season game since signing a four-year, $220 million contract on July 26 that made him the NFL’s highest-paid player. He played just three snaps in the preseason opener and then sat out the final two practice games.

Love finished the game with 17 of 34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
