Although there are conflicting reports, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Green Bay Packers are not expected to sign any experienced quarterbacks – including free agent Ryan Tannehill – while Jordan Love is out with a knee injury.

Pelissero reports that the Packers will move forward with backups Malik Willis, who was acquired in a trade in late August, and Sean Clifford, who backed up Love last season and is now on the practice squad.

The Packers are expected to be without Love for at least three weeks after he suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Packers have been in contact with representatives for Tannehill, a veteran starter who is available and waiting for the right opportunity. However, Pelissero’s report strongly contradicts Russini’s statements that they are both recruiting other quarterbacks and contacting Tannehill.

The Packers traded a seventh-round pick for Willis, who played 11 games in two seasons for the Tennessee Titans. Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reported that the Packers will use Willis during Love’s absence, starting next Sunday in the home opener against the Indianapolis Colts.

Willis has been in Green Bay for nearly two weeks. He has a full week of preparation before the Packers face the Colts next Sunday at Lambeau Field. Quarterback coach Tom Clements will work to get Willis fit, and Matt LaFleur will develop a creative game plan that builds on Willis’ knowledge and strengths.

With no experienced addition coming in, Willis will get a chance to help the Packers win a game or two with Love out. Green Bay faces the Colts, Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings over the next three weeks.

Tannehill, who has yet to sign a contract, has starred in 151 career games. Last season, he threw four touchdown passes and seven interceptions to lead the Titans to a 3-5 record in eight starts. He was replaced by rookie Will Levis.
