Pendleton, OR – Residents of Pendleton and surrounding areas are under a fire weather watch starting Sunday, with windy and dry conditions expected to increase the fire danger. The National Weather Service issued the warning as a dry cold front sweeps across eastern Oregon and Washington, bringing gusts of up to 35 miles per hour and humidity as low as 15%.

According to the National Weather Service, the Fire Weather Watch will impact the Lower Columbia Basin, including major routes such as I-84. Winds are expected to increase throughout the day, particularly in grassy areas where the fire may spread quickly. Conditions could worsen as dust storms and poor visibility are also expected in affected regions.

Locals are urged to avoid outdoor activities that could start fires and to secure loose items as winds increase. Critical fire weather conditions will continue into Sunday evening. Winds may continue until Monday morning, but temperatures are expected to cool, reaching highs around 20°C.

Looking ahead, Pendleton will see mostly clear skies through Tuesday, with high temperatures between 67°F and 76°F, providing some relief from the fire threat early in the week. Residents should stay informed of local conditions and follow fire safety precautions while the watch remains in effect.
