One of two people killed in UTV crash near Hebron identified – Shaw Local

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has determined the identity of one of the men killed in a UTV crash on Thayer Road near Hebron late Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Bryan Dahm, 36, of Woodstock. The other man is pending identification, a news release said.

According to the medical examiner’s office, an autopsy revealed that Dahm had suffered thermal injuries; toxicology testing is pending.

Authorities had previously said there were three people in the UTV and initially said the two men who died were both Harvard residents. The third man, from California, refused medical attention, authorities said. Dahm and the California man were passengers, according to authorities, while a 40-year-old Harvard man was the driver.

The sheriff’s office said the UTV rolled over several times during the crash, came to rest in a ditch and caught fire. They also said there was likely alcohol in the vehicle.

UTVs, or utility terrain vehicles, also called side-by-sides, are typically larger and more expensive than off-road vehicles. UTVs are generally not allowed on roads unless the municipality or homeowners association allows them. McHenry County has no ordinance on UTV use, officials previously said.

The coroner’s office is working with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Hebron Fire Protection District to investigate the accident, the news release said.
