One Book One Lincoln hosts an event around the theme of trees

LINCOLN, Nebraska (KOLN) – On Saturday afternoon, “One Book One Lincoln” combined the promotion of nature with the promotion of the spirit at an event to honor one of its top three finalists.

One of the finalists, “North Woods” by Daniel Mason, examines how trees serve as witnesses to human history. In keeping with the novel, Lincoln City Libraries have partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation to host the event on Saturday at the Gere Library.

The program also included a professional arborist who answered questions about trees and provided succulents to the first 100 participants. The foundation said it will also plant a tree in a forest in need for each participant.

Organizers of the event said it was the perfect way to get people excited about reading and nature.

“We’re here for the community,” said Jennifer Jackson of Lincoln City Libraries. “This is a way for us to celebrate books, reading, literacy and togetherness.”

“Reading something that can inspire your work around the world as we plant trees in forests and communities is truly a wonderful thing,” said Jeff Salem of the Arbor Day Foundation.

The other two One Book One Lincoln finalists are “A Little Devil in America” and “The Berry Pickers,” which will have their own events later this month. Anyone can vote for their favorite on the Lincoln City Libraries website until August 31.

The author of the winning book will be announced on Labor Day.
