“I’m really excited for the next chapter and feel very lucky. He’s a great guy,” Culpo tells PEOPLE exclusively

Olivia Culpo is in the home stretch before her wedding!

The 31-year-old model and influencer recently said at an event for Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% that she was starting to realize that her wedding to San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was imminent.

“The countdown has begun,” Culpo told PEOPLE. “It’s happening.”

She said she couldn’t wait for the big day and the changes it would bring for her and McCaffrey – who have been together for nearly five years.

“I’m excited to marry my best friend,” she said. “I’m very excited about the next chapter and I feel very lucky. He’s a great guy.”

With the wedding date fast approaching, Culpo revealed that she is experimenting with some new beauty treatments and trying new things to keep her skin looking glowing for the big event.

“One of the things I did recently with Dr. Ellie is this one, it’s called the salmon sperm facial,” she said. “That was really interesting. Also, Dr. Diamond has this one, I think it’s called the Inst Facial. That’s special. It’s PRP with exosomes, and that’s something I’d never tried before. That was really, really cool.”

“Lymphatic drainage, massages,” she added. “I’ve tried to do that more often. I’ve just tried to do all the things that my friends say work.”

The former Miss Universe also said that “everything” about wedding planning so far has been “so exciting” and that while nothing has been particularly “stressful,” a lot of planning has been involved to make sure “everyone is happy.”

“It’s just logistically complicated,” the model explained. “Figuring out what everyone’s going to wear, figuring out where everyone’s going to stay, making sure everyone’s happy.”

“I feel like I want to please people and make sure everyone else has the time of their life, but I know it’s going to be OK,” she added. “I feel really good about it.”

In March, Culpo gave her Instagram followers a sneak peek at some wedding details, including the possible role the couple’s Goldendoodle, Oliver Sprinkles Culpo McCaffrey, would play in the ceremony.

“I really want him to be the ring bearer,” she wrote alongside a photo of the pup, who has his own Instagram account. “tbd lol.”

She also shared that her wedding dress is still a work in progress, writing, “I don’t physically have the dress yet, but I’ve been working on it for months. I can’t wait to see the finished product!!”
