Oklahoma vs. Tennessee through the years in fantastic photos

The Oklahoma Sooners and Tennessee Volunteers have a long history in college football. As good as the two teams have been over the years, they have only played each other four times.

The Sooners rank fifth all-time in winning percentage and sixth in most wins in college football history. The Volunteers rank 12th all-time in winning percentage and tenth in total wins.

The Sooners lead the series 3-1 overall, having secured a win in both the home and away games in 2014 and 2015.

In 2014, the Sooners won 34-10, held the Volunteers to 313 yards, and OU’s defense forced three turnovers. The Sooners recorded five sacks, led by two by Quentin Hayes. Julian Wilson returned a 100-yard interception for a touchdown. On offense, Trevor Knight threw for 301 yards and scored two total touchdowns. Keith Ford scored two touchdowns to spur the Sooners.

The 2015 game was much closer. But it was the moment when Baker Mayfield introduced himself to the world of college football.

In week two of the season, Mayfield and the Sooners trailed Tennessee 17-3 early in the fourth quarter. The Sooners quarterback threw touchdown passes to Samaje Perine and Sterling Shepard in the final eight minutes. Shepard’s touchdown catch is one of the most iconic moments of the Stoops era, when the wide receiver caught the ball at the 10-yard line and looked like he was going to be stopped just short of the end zone. But Shepard leapt over a Tennessee defender and fought his way across the goal line to score.

Mayfield then ran for a touchdown in the first overtime before hitting Shepard again in the second overtime for the game-winning point to clinch the remarkable comeback victory.

Are the Sooners in line for another stellar defensive performance? Can they pull off a little more magic when they host the Volunteers on Saturday night?

Here’s a look at some amazing images from the Home and Home series from 2014 and 2015.
