Oklahoma vs Tennessee game today: channel, time, streaming information

In its third season under coach Brent Venables, Oklahoma Football started 3-0 and reached number 13 in the US LBM Coaches Poll.

Now the Sooners face their biggest challenge yet.

This weekend, Oklahoma will make its SEC debut when it hosts No. 7 Tennessee at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, a matchup of top-15 teams with dreams of conference and national titles this early in the season.

The Sooners remain undefeated despite some relatively close games over the past two weeks. After beating Houston 16-12 in Week 2, Oklahoma trailed Tulane by just five points with seven minutes left before pulling away shortly after to beat the Green Wave 34-19. Sophomore quarterback Jackson Arnold ran for 97 yards and scored two touchdowns in the win. The second touchdown came on a 24-yard run that extended the Sooners’ lead from five to 12 points with six minutes left.

The Vols, however, pose a different, more formidable obstacle.

Led by head coach Josh Heupel, the former national championship-winning quarterback for Oklahoma City, Tennessee enters the matchup with the FBS’s best offense, averaging 63.7 points per game. The Volunteers have outscored their three opponents by a combined score of 191-13 and have never scored fewer than 51 points in a game.

Oklahoma vs. Tennessee – Predictions, Tips, Odds

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Thursday, September 19

Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel: Tennessee 47, Oklahoma 24

The Vols will finally allow a touchdown this season, but it won’t matter much. Heupel’s return to Oklahoma leads to a sweet win for Tennessee and its coach. With a 4-0 start, Tennessee is in good position heading into an open week.”

Justin Martinez, The Oklahoman: Tennessee 34, Oklahoma 20

“OU’s offense has gone at least four consecutive drives this season without scoring a touchdown in each game. That can’t happen Saturday if it wants to keep up with quarterback Nico Iamaleava and the Volunteers, who rank first nationally in points per game (63.7). Wide receiver Nic Anderson could make his debut for the Sooners, and that would be a huge boost. But OU still doesn’t have much of a running game, and its undermanned offense will struggle to fight back against an elite Tennessee defensive line led by James Pearce Jr. The Volunteers will come out on top in this game.”

Bill Bender, The Sporting News: Tennessee 34, Oklahoma 24

The Sooners are a ranked team making its SEC debut, and the line has dropped a half-point since the start. Oklahoma quarterback Jackson Arnold and Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava will be the focus here. Arnold has been sacked nine times in three games, while Iamaleava has been sacked three times. If the Vols can avoid turnovers and the running game around Dylan Sampson gets going, it will spoil Oklahoma’s party. The Sooners have been underdogs at home once this century — and that was a 45-24 loss to Ohio State in 2016. Are the Vols that good? We’ll find out.
