Ohio State: Ice hockey team to play 2024-25 games at Wrigley Field

It’s official. The Ohio State men’s and women’s hockey teams are coming to Wrigley Field.

The Big Ten announced Thursday that both Ohio State’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will participate in the “Frozen Confines” hockey series at Wrigley Field in January.

The Ohio State men’s hockey team will face Michigan in a doubleheader on Jan. 3 that also features Penn State vs. Notre Dame. The order of the games has not yet been determined, but start times are set for 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The Ohio State women’s hockey team will face Wisconsin in a rematch of the 2024 national championship game on Jan. 4. In a doubleheader, the Wisconsin men’s hockey team will face Michigan State. The order of the games is still to be determined, but start times are confirmed for 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Ohio State’s women’s hockey game against Wisconsin will replace the second game of a weekend series. The first game is scheduled for Jan. 2 in Madison, Wisconsin. It will replace the team’s series originally scheduled for February.

Ohio State football will face Northwestern at Wrigley Field on November 16.

The Ohio State women’s hockey team has already participated in one outdoor game, the 2020 “Hockey Day Minnesota” against Minnesota.

The Ohio State men’s hockey team’s game against Michigan at Wrigley Field will be the team’s fifth outdoor game in the modern era. The Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines at Cleveland Browns Stadium in February 2023.

The Ohio State men’s ice hockey team opens its 2024–25 schedule on October 11 against American International at Value City Arena.

The Ohio State women’s hockey team opens its 2024–25 season on September 21 against Minnesota Duluth at the OSU rink.
