Taco lovers can enjoy a very special Taco Tuesday this week, with National Taco Day kicking off the month on October 1st. Previously, National Taco Day was celebrated on October 4th every year, but starting this year, the celebration will take place on the first Tuesday in October, according to a September announcement from National Day Calendar and Taco Bell.

The announcement follows Taco Bell’s ongoing efforts to remove the “Taco Tuesday” brand, previously owned by Taco John’s, and subsequently move the date of National Taco Day.

“For years we have celebrated National Taco Day on October 4th, but we always felt there was a greater opportunity to align it with something even more special – Taco Tuesday,” said Marlo Anderson, founder of the National Day Calendar, back then. This combination creates “the Taco Tuesday of all Taco Tuesdays,” he said.

Tacos hold a special place in Phoenix’s food culture. Numerous shops and trucks throughout the valley are winning the love of Arizonans in all ways to serve the popular dish, from birria to carne asada to calabacitas.

To make the celebration of this legendary food even more special, National Taco Day will announce finalists for The Arizona Republic’s Top Taco of 2024, a readers’ choice contest asking readers who makes the best tacos in Phoenix.

Estero Beach Tacos, a food truck serving fish and shrimp tacos at the Uptown Farmers Market in Phoenix, was named the Top Taco 2023 winner.

This year there are taco deals on both October 1st and 4th and even all month long. Here you can find out where and how you can close the deals.
