O’Connor extends contract with Avalanche for 6 years

Logan O’Connor signed a six-year contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche on Monday. Financial details of the deal, which begins with the 2025/26 season, were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old striker is entering the final season of a three-year contract he signed with Colorado on September 22, 2021.

“We are very excited to have ‘OC’ under contract for the next seven years,” said Avalanche General Manager Chris MacFarland. “He is a tireless worker and competitor who brings energy and grit to the lineup every night. His speed and skating ability make him a dangerous player in both directions and he is one of our best penalty killers. Logan is also a great teammate and proud to be part of the Denver community.”

O’Connor scored 25 points, including 13 goals, in 57 games last season, which is an NHL career high. He led Avalanche forwards in shorthanded ice time per game (2:17) and ranked fourth in turnovers (38).

O’Connor did not participate in the Stanley Cup playoffs after undergoing season-ending hip surgery on March 21.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by Colorado on July 23, 2018, O’Connor recorded 82 points (35 goals, 47 assists) in 263 regular season games. He also recorded five points (one goal, four assists) in 31 playoff games, including four points (one goal, three assists) in 17 games during the 2021-22 season when he helped the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup.
