NYC storm damage updates: Cleanup crews in the Tri-State region work to clear Debby debris

NEW YORK (WABC) — Cleanup crews are expected throughout the tri-state area to collect any remaining debris from Debby.

The severe storm brought rain and gusty winds that downed power lines and hundreds of trees.

In Whitestone, Queens, one of these trees fell as a Con Edison worker arrived.

A large branch almost fell on him, but luckily he was able to get out of the danger zone just in time.

Fallen power lines in the Woodlawn neighborhood of the Bronx caused a small fire after a tree struck power poles.

Although damage was reported throughout the city, there were no reports of widespread power outages or serious injuries as a result of the storm.

Meanwhile, public transport is also working to fully resume operations after Debby brought numerous modes of transport to a standstill.

Governor Kathy Hochul issued a statement saying that New York would remain under a state of emergency while cleanup and rescue efforts continued.
