NWS Flood Warning issued for Augusta County

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro.

The remnants of Hurricane Helene will impact the region early Friday morning into Friday evening. Heavy rain is likely along and east of the Blue Ridge Mountains and in parts of the central Shenandoah Valley and surrounding highlands. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible in some areas.

WHEN: Thursday night to Friday evening.

WHAT: Flooding due to excessive rainfall is possible.

WHERE: Parts of central, northwestern and western Virginia, including the following areas: In central Virginia: Albemarle, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, Greene and Nelson. In northwestern Virginia: Madison, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge and Rappahannock. In western Virginia: Augusta, Eastern Highland and Western Highland.

IMPACTS: Excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas. Flooding may occur in areas with poor drainage and in urban areas. Low water crossings may be inundated.
