Nottingham Forest: Midfielder Danilo breaks ankle in draw against Bournemouth

Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo has broken his ankle, coach Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed.

The 23-year-old fell heavily on his left leg after fouling Antoine Semenyo after just six minutes of the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday.

Danilo was treated on the pitch for nine minutes and then taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. He will undergo further assessments on Sunday.

“It was a terrible moment for everyone, he broke his ankle,” said Nuno.

“It’s serious, we will miss him, not only on the pitch. He is a wonderful boy. He is always smiling, always happy and we wish him the best.”

“Everyone loves him so much. He is just leaving the hospital and will be checked tomorrow. It is serious but the good news is that he is stable. He is talking and conscious, he just needs time.”

When asked how long Danilo might be out, Nuno replied: “I can’t answer that. I just hope it’s only a short time. He’s a very important player for us.”

After Danilo was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, Forest took the lead in the 23rd minute through Chris Wood, but Semenyo equalised four minutes from time.

“It (Danilo’s injury) remains in the players’ minds, but the reaction was good,” said Nuno.

“It was a good game, a tough game. Both teams had chances, controlled the game, had momentum. In the second half we had possession, good combinations and conceded a goal in the last few minutes. We are disappointed about that.”
