Northeast Tech Bridge’s Blue Tech Demo Day showcases innovative technology in NUWC’s Newport Division

Get ready, tech enthusiasts! More than 30 of the hottest tech companies are gearing up to showcase their skills at Blue Tech Demo Day 2024, scheduled for August 29 at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. Hosted by NUWC Division Newport’s Northeast Tech Bridge in partnership with the nonprofit 401 Tech Bridge, this year’s event pulls out all the stops to connect innovative small businesses with top-tier scientists, engineers, and U.S. Department of Defense bigwigs.

The goal? To quickly bring cutting-edge technology to our soldiers. “We want to expose our campus scientists and engineers to the innovative technology of these small companies in a way that is relevant to their mission,” said Julie Kallfelz, director of the Northeast Tech Bridge. “Each company brings something unique that piques the interest of our engineers and lays the foundation for future partnerships and meaningful engagement.”

In-water demos will make a splash at operational areas throughout Narragansett Bay, including Division Newport’s Narragansett Bay Test Facility (NTBF). Meanwhile, Sail Newport will host both indoor and in-water presentations at Fort Adams State Park. The demo begins at 10:30 a.m., with closing remarks and networking scheduled for 4 p.m. Expect to hear from big names like U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Division Newport’s Technical Director Marie Bussiere, Christian Cowan of the University of Rhode Island, and NavalX’s Scott Bewley.

The participating technology companies aren’t just here to show off – they’re on a mission. Teams will complete a cross-domain task that involves identifying and analyzing an object of interest, transmitting the data to the surface, and then deciding on the best course of action. Two teams will launch from the NTBF, while four others will launch from Sail Newport. Each will be assigned to one of three operational zones, and all will execute the mission in turn.

Following the mission, the companies will have the opportunity to showcase their capabilities to an audience of over 150, including key representatives from the Newport Division, Office of Naval Research, industry and academia. This is not a one-off event, but the grand finale of a series of technical presentations over the past few months that have focused on cross-domain communications, digital twins, sensors and unmanned vehicles.

Space at Sail Newport is limited and you must pre-register to attend. Don’t expect automatic registration just yet; spaces are limited! For more information and to try your luck at registering, visit 401techbridge.org/event/bluetide-2024.
