North Platte City Council approves industrial and environmental concepts for work on anaerobic lagoon sealing

NORTH PLATTE, Nebraska (KNOP) – Construction on the industrial wastewater treatment plant continues to move forward. On Tuesday, the North Platte City Council approved and authorized Mayor Brandon Kelliher to discuss and finalize the $1,526,251.71 contracts with Industrial & Environmental Concepts, Inc. for the anaerobic liner work.

“The Lagoon Liner is another part of the industrial wastewater facility that is being built,” said City Engineer Brent Burklund. “Using the $20 million in Arpa grant funds, we are working to complete the design, but to expedite the overall project, we are trying to complete parts of it as quickly as possible to expedite the completion of the project.”

According to Burklund, the industrial wastewater treatment process serves sustainable beef production.

“So it’s the wastewater that comes out of the manufacturing plant,” Burklund said. “So it’s highly concentrated industrial waste, so sustainable beef or other industries that generate a similar type of industrial wastewater. So this treatment process is designed for anything with higher concentration, about 10 to 20 times stronger than domestic wastewater.”

The anaerobic lagoons are the first of four major components of this project.

The new wastewater site is located north of the existing wastewater facility. To view the full meeting, click here.
