North Korean missile probably kills father and son near Kiev

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling for Ukraine to lift restrictions on the use of long-range weapons by Western allies following the deadly Russian airstrike near Kyiv, which he believes may have involved a North Korean missile.

“For the Russians, there are no geographical restrictions on the use of such weapons – from the first days of the all-out war, the entire territory of our state has been under constant threat of attack,” Zelensky wrote on Sunday on X.

“When Ukraine’s long-range capabilities no longer have limits, this war will definitely have a limit too – then we will really come closer to its just end.”

Ukraine is prohibited from firing Western weapons at targets deep inside Russian territory, partly because European and American politicians fear doing so could draw them into the war.

Zelensky said Russia had fired 30 missiles and over 800 glide bombs at Ukraine within a week.

He condemned Russia’s “deliberate terrorist attack” in a Kyiv suburb over the weekend that killed a father and his four-year-old son, saying preliminary information suggested the Russians had used a North Korean missile.

However, there were conflicting reports from Kyiv. Zelensky’s adviser Andriy Yermak said an Iranian-made drone had hit the family’s house in the suburb of Brovary. Rescue workers had previously said the house had been hit by rocket fragments.
