“Nope! Give it back immediately!” people shout as wedding guests show off their “cheap” tuxedos, others mistake it for underwear

A wedding guest caused a stir on the Internet after she posted the outfit she wanted to wear.

The woman showed off the polarizing style for her followers, who compared the look to underwear.

A TikTok user showed off the outfit she planned to wear to an evening wedding, but her followers were completely blown away by the look.

In her viral video, TikTok user Sadie (@sstraining) explained her dilemma about what to wear to her boyfriend’s brother’s wedding.

She announced that she was still waiting for the other options but only had four days to return her current choice.

Sadie took a step back to give her audience a full view of her current outfit.

The two-piece consisted of a black crop top with spaghetti straps, which she described as looking “really cheap.”

“This is my first choice. I think it looks really cheap, the straps are just cheap, the fabric feels cheap,” said Sadie.

Her tight-fitting skirt reached down to her ankles and flared slightly, creating a mermaid style.

The skirt also had a black lace detail at the waist that partially covered Sadie’s exposed stomach.

“Does this even count as black tie? Should I even keep this as an option?” she asked.

Her followers shared their thoughts on the two-piece look in the comments section.

“Nope! Come back! When you think of black tie, think a ball gown or formal evening dress,” wrote one viewer.

“I thought that was the petticoat, the layer you wear under the dress. Please google the dress code ‘black tie’, it’s super formal,” said another TikTok user.

“No separates, no visible belly or spaghetti straps for black tie,” advised a third person.

“Be sure to come back. I thought you were wearing a petticoat to show us the real dress,” wrote another commenter.

“I feel like you just heard ‘black’ and not ‘black tie,'” one follower noted.

“A tuxedo outfit for a wedding is definitely a NO. But a sequin blazer for New Year’s Eve or any similar occasion is a YES,” suggested another person.

Dos and Don’ts of Wedding Dress Code

By Josie Griffiths, Deputy Editor of Fabulous and bride-to-be.

Josie Griffiths said: “I will never forget the wedding I attended in October 2022 where a guest wore a white dress.”

It was ill-fitting, knee-length, and didn’t look like a proper wedding dress at all, but that didn’t stop everyone from judging her.

The rules for what a wedding guest should wear – which are unfortunately much stricter for women than for men – are intended to ensure that you don’t steal the show from the bride, but in reality that’s quite difficult to do on someone else’s wedding day.

But if you do it wrong as a guest, you end up looking a bit ridiculous, especially in front of a lot of people who don’t know you personally.

It’s just not the right occasion for your new white dress, even if online stores like to dump it in the “wedding guests” section.

I would avoid anything too tight/short and avoid super formal evening dresses unless the dress code requires them – you don’t want to wear a floor-length sequin dress to a smart-casual event.

Personally, I don’t like black dresses either, it’s not a funeral.

Otherwise, you should be pretty safe. Technically, wearing red means you’re in love with the groom, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at these days.

I always check what color the bridesmaids are wearing, just to be sure. After the Spanish wedding, I saw her walk down the aisle in the exact same dress that I had in my Asos shopping basket just weeks before.

If in doubt, it’s best to ask the bride again… but if you’re already having doubts about your dress, this may be the only answer you need.

“No, even though it’s all the way down, it’s more of a cocktail dress. Usually black tie dresses have longer sleeves,” wrote one viewer.

“This can’t even be a backup option,” said another TikTok user.

“This is the complete opposite of black tie. Definitely a RETURN,” commented one follower.

“I’m also going to a black tie wedding and have done so much research as I’ve never been to one myself and this is a big no-no,” wrote another commenter.

“Friend, if it shows your midsection, it’s probably not black tie,” one viewer remarked.
