No rain, no snow… no traffic accidents: Hunting Valley police report

HUNTING VALLEY, Ohio

Truck accident: SOM Center Road

There were no serious injuries when a pest control company’s pickup truck struck a U.S. Postal Service mail delivery truck making its rounds on Route 91 south of Cedar Road just before noon on August 1.

The 2010 Grumman was parked at a mailbox, with the 2014 Nissan Frontier waiting behind it. But as the mail truck continued on and stopped at the mailbox on the other side of the driveway, the driver of the Aurora-based contractor, a 28-year-old Cleveland man, was unable to stop in time and crashed into the left rear quarter panel of the mail truck.

The mail truck sustained only minor damage, but the pest control truck was disabled by the front-end impact. The mail carrier, a Chesterland woman, was listed as a possible casualty in the accident report, although she declined medical transport.

Both trucks were towed from the scene of the accident and the pest controller was reported for failing to maintain the required safe distance. Both drivers were insured.

Road Hazard: Chagrin River Road, Fairmount Boulevard

Police responded to a report of a large turtle blocking traffic as it attempted to cross the street at 6:16 p.m. on August 3. An officer arrived to redirect cars around the turtle, barely moving and reportedly taking a breather at the yellow lines. No tickets were issued.

Irregular Driver: South Woodland Road

A driver reported erratic movements to the Hunting Valley dispatcher in Beachwood at 6:08 p.m. on August 3 and was later stopped by Solon police, who confirmed that distracted driving appeared to have played a role.
