NMSU OC Tyler Wright will not be with the team for the game against New Mexico as the school investigates derogatory tweets

New Mexico State offensive coordinator Tyler Wright was not with the team for Saturday’s game against New Mexico as the school investigates decades-old derogatory social media posts, university officials confirmed The athlete on Saturday.

The Las Cruces Sun News reported Friday that from 2011 to 2014, Wright made more than 150 posts on Twitter/X that included derogatory language about Africans, Black Americans, Hispanics and members of the LBGTQ+ community. Wright played for Tarleton State at the time.

By midday on Saturday, the posts were deleted and his first publicly accessible post dates from September 2023.

The Sun News also reported that Wright tweeted in 2020 during the George Floyd protests: “People are people, regardless of color or background, and deserve to be treated as such.” We must do better than that Supporting each other’s goals and loving each other.”

In June, he also posted a black square as part of a widespread social media protest against racism and police brutality.

Wright joined the NMSU staff in 2022 as the tight ends coach. In January of this year, he was promoted to offensive coordinator under new head coach Tony Sanchez.

New Mexico State lost 50-40 to New Mexico on Saturday to fall to 1-4.
