NJ lottery player wins $1 million Powerball

A New Jersey lottery player won $1 million on the Powerball lottery on Wednesday.

No one won the jackpot, and only the one NJ ticket matched all five white balls, winning a second-tier prize, according to the Powerball website.

The million-dollar ticket was sold at Variedades Ecualatinas on Ferry Street in Newark, Essex County, the New Jersey Lottery said. In addition, other lottery players in New Jersey won $150,444 in prizes ranging from $4 to $400.

Meanwhile, the jackpot will rise to an estimated $195 million, with a cash payout option of $99.1 million for Saturday night’s drawing.

The jackpot was last won on August 19, when a California lottery player won a jackpot of $44.3 million.

Lump sum payment or pension?

The major lotteries in the United States offer two options for jackpot payouts: annuity and cash.

The annuity option provides payouts over a longer period of time, with an immediate payment first and then 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.

The cash option is significantly lower than the advertised jackpot, but is paid out in one lump sum. You don’t have to wait decades for all the money.

Can I win the jackpot and remain anonymous?

In some states, like New Jersey, you can win the lottery anonymously. It wasn’t always that way, but now winners can remain anonymous under a law signed by Governor Phil Murphy.

In other states, the winner’s name and city of residence are public record. Contact your state lottery for more information.
