Despite a successful career spanning twenty years and several world tours, rapper Nicki Minaj has never performed in San Antonio.
The Grammy-nominated artist can finally check Alamo City off her bucket list on Wednesday with a show at Frost Bank Center as part of her expanded Pink Friday 2 World Tour.
Minaj extended the tour – the highest-grossing tour of all time for a female rapper, according to Billboard Boxscore – in late May to include Alamo City and a number of other new stops.
The second leg of Pink Friday 2 will see Minaj make stops in Miami, Philadelphia, Kansas City and St. Louis, among other cities. After Wednesday’s show in San Antonio, she will head to the West Coast for a series of dates in California. The tour will end in her hometown of Queens, New York, on October 11.
Minaj not only broke records as a rapper with Pink Friday 2, the tour is also one of the 10 highest-grossing rap tours of all time for any gender, according to Billboard. By May, the shows had already grossed more than $67 million in the US alone and sold 439,000 tickets.
Minaj’s tour also included an international leg, but it was temporarily interrupted because she was arrested in Amsterdam on drug charges and had to be rescheduled for a date in Manchester, UK.
Minaj is on tour to promote the release of her fifth studio album. Pink Friday 2The album is a sequel to their debut album from 2010 Pink Fridaywhich brought her meteoric fame with the song “Super Bass”.
In the tour’s elaborate stage show, the rapper’s fans – also called “Barbz” – immerse themselves in a pink fantasy world called “Gag City”. The show in San Antonio will also feature performances by Tyga, Bia and Skillibeng.
