Nick Saban joined The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, where he explained his feelings about it Deion Sanders decide to restart Colorado Practice was over earlier this week when he didn’t like what he saw from the Buffaloes.

Apparently Saban never went so far as to resume an entire workout, but he did elaborate on resuming specific portions of training. Regardless, he understood where his friend Coach Prime was coming from as he looks to keep Colorado in a competitive mood after their miraculous win over Baylor in Week 4.

“In the past, instead of starting the workout from the beginning, I would start the class from the beginning,” Saban explained. “Like, we were going on a good team run or whatever, and one side of the ball just wasn’t responding, or the offense got overloaded, or the defense got busted, I let them run. “Eight, 10, 12 games and I’d say : “This is not what we need” and start the period again. This usually got their attention because they knew we would be starting over the next class, but I was always afraid to start the workout over because the workout would take too long or something.

“It’s the same concept, you try to change the mindset of how everyone approaches preparing for the game. It’s the same thing I said before about the Coach Prime situation: playing badly and winning is like the kiss of death because the guys don’t always want to react. They look at you and say, “Hey coach, we won the game. Why are you all so upset and forcing us to practice and stuff?” When you lose, they ask, “When are we practicing?” Not, “Why are we practicing?”

“So there is a big difference in mindset, but the really big competitors always keep the same mindset because they want to be the best they can be. So it’s not just about winning or losing, it’s about being the best they can be.”

Unfortunately, Deion Sanders’ tactics get the approval of Nick Saban, and that’s the only thing that really matters when you think about it. Time will tell if it works out in Colorado’s favor because they will compete UCF in Week 5 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
