NHC: Tropical Storm Francine forms in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane

Tropical Storm Francine has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is the sixth named storm of the hurricane season, one day before the season’s official peak, the NHC reported.

According to the National Hurricane Center, Francine is expected to eventually develop into a hurricane before making landfall somewhere near the coast of Texas and Louisiana.

According to the NHC, hurricane warnings have been issued for the Louisiana coast, with an increasing risk of destructive hurricane-force winds in these areas beginning Wednesday.

According to the NHC, tropical storm warnings are in effect for northeastern Mexico and southernmost Texas, with potential impacts beginning Tuesday night.

FOX 13 Meteorologist Valerie Mills said the waters in the Gulf of Mexico are very warm, making conditions very favorable for this disturbance to form.

According to the NHC, Francine is expected to be a hurricane when it makes landfall along the northwest Gulf Coast on Wednesday or Wednesday evening. There is an increasing likelihood of life-threatening storm surge in parts of coastal regions of Upper Texas and Louisiana.

The disturbance’s maximum sustained wind speed is currently around 50 mph, and further intensification is expected on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in the tropics, there are two disturbances in the Atlantic that have a medium chance of developing next week.

According to the NHC, a low-pressure system in the central tropical Atlantic could encounter favorable environmental conditions in the next few days and form a tropical depression. The probability of formation is 60 percent in the next two days and 60 percent in the next week.

And it is assumed that a low-pressure area several hundred kilometers west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands is interacting with an approaching tropical wave.
