NFL Week 3 Results and Live Updates: Ravens Beat Cowboys, Andy Dalton Revives Panthers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Only three times in franchise history have the Packers sacked the opposing quarterback more times than in Sunday’s 30-14 win over the Titans.

Eight sacks by quarterback Will Levis. Most in a game for Green Bay since 2005. Seven different players on the sack list. Three players with more than one.

According to TruMedia, the Titans ranked 29th in pressure percentage allowed on dropbacks through the first two weeks of the season, so Green Bay knew there would be opportunities to disrupt the quarterback. The Packers, while 11th in pressure percentage after two games, were 30th in sack percentage, with only 4.2 percent of their pass rushes bringing down the quarterback. That was partially intentional, as the Packers implemented a more vertical, disciplined rush strategy to keep mobile quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Anthony Richardson in the pocket.

Against the Titans and an athletic but less mobile quarterback like Levis, it was time to stand up against a vastly inferior line. The Packers’ pressure rate on Sunday was 38.6 percent, which would rank ninth through the first two weeks, not much different than against the Eagles and Colts. However, their sack rate on Sunday was a whopping 19 percent. The league’s best team in that category after two weeks, the Texans, had a sack rate of 13.8 percent. According to TruMedia, the Packers blitzed only 20.5 percent of Levis’ dropbacks and only two of their sacks came from blitzes (five or more pass rushers), making the Green Bay Packers’ dominance on defense even more impressive.

“It’s free, freedom,” defensive end Kingsley Enagbare said. “We knew what we were capable of. The last two weeks, we just followed the game plan and that basically showed how dominant we can be.”

“It was a good feeling to push the envelope a little bit,” added defensive end Rashan Gary, “to be able to rush without having to control every pass.”
