NFL Week 1 Results and Live Updates: Schedule, News, Analysis, Inactive Players, Observations on Sunday’s Games

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence ranks 16th in Tier 3 of The athlete‘s 2024 NFL quarterback tiers.

He has dropped seven spots, the largest drop of any player starting in 2023. The gap between his salary ranking (1st) and his Tiers ranking (15th) is the largest of any player in Tiers history in this regard.

Not everyone believes Lawrence can fill that gap.

“It’s a problem when owners think you’re a grade A or a 1.5, but in reality you’re a B in a good year and in reality you’re more like a 2.5,” said one voter.

Some voters drew parallels between Lawrence and Herbert as talented passers with low-key personalities trying to make an impact against weaker organizations. Voters see both as players that NFL teams would have no problem selecting first in a draft. Is there something missing?

“Burrow, Josh Allen and Mahomes have something that borders on arrogance that I don’t see in Herbert or Lawrence,” said one defensive coach. “I don’t know if it’s confidence, poise or command. Maybe I’m just mistaking it for humility.”

Lawrence was trending positively at the start of last season. The Jaguars started 8-3 before Lawrence’s injuries piled up – first a shoulder, then a knee, then an ankle. Are voters reading too much into an easily explained temporary dip in performance?

“He’s mobile, has strong arms, good size and is really talented,” said an assistant GM. “He has a few weaknesses in his game. I wonder if it was just a (bad) year. I like him and if I had him, I’d be happy with him. Maybe he can move up to Tier 2.”
