When Jordan Love went down in the final seconds of the Green Bay Packers’ 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday night in Week 1 and was unable to get up on his own, fans feared the worst.

You can probably sleep a little better tonight because initial reports suggest Love’s knee injury is not season-ending. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Love is expected to be out for some time after his medial ligament injury.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network says the “initial timeline for return is in the range of 3 to 6 weeks.”

It’s still a blow for Love, who signed a huge new contract during training camp, and for the Packers, a team that entered the season with high expectations. Now they’ll have to rely on a backup quarterback for the foreseeable future, drastically changing the early part of the season.

But the fact that at first glance it wasn’t anything worse – like a torn ACL – lets everyone at 1265 Lombardi Avenue breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Love will return at some point.

NFL Twitter reacts to update on Jordan Love’s injury

Former NFL player Emmanuel Acho, now an analyst for FOX Sports, shared his take on X, formerly Twitter, on the update.

Football fans in general are grateful that Love’s injury was not more serious and wish him well in his recovery.

What happened to Jordan Love? When was the Packers quarterback injured?

Love was injured when he was tackled in the final seconds of the Packers’ Week 1 game against the Eagles in Brazil on Friday. It happened on the second play of the drive. Trailing by five points and with no timeouts, the Packers were desperately trying to score the game-winning point.

The drive began at their own 16-yard line with 22 seconds left. On the first play, Love completed a 33-yard pass to Jayden Reed and got near the halfway line with 15 seconds left.

On the next play, Love went into the pocket and tried to elude two defenders to make a difference. That’s when Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter grabbed Love’s left knee before the Packers quarterback was taken down by linebacker Josh Sweat.

Before going down, Love threw the ball back to running back Josh Jacobs, who ran 4 yards out of bounds with 6 seconds left. Love remained in pain and needed help getting off the field.

Packers quarterback lineup: Who is Malik Willis?

Love is expected to be out for several weeks. Who will start at quarterback for the Packers?

Malik Willis, Love’s backup in Week 1, took the final two snaps in the final seconds against the Eagles. His first throw was incomplete and he was sacked on the last play of the game.

The Packers acquired Willis in a trade with the Tennessee Titans at the end of training camp, one day before releasing quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt.

Clifford, a second-year player from Penn State, was re-signed to the practice squad. He was Love’s backup in 2023, but his training camp was disappointing in his attempt to back up Love. Could general manager Brian Gutekunst sign a veteran quarterback while he waits for Love to return?
