NFL Rumors: Kadarius Toney visits Seahawks after being released by Chiefs | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats & Rumors

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, free agent wide receiver Kadarius Toney has visited the Seattle Seahawks.

The Kansas City Chiefs released Toney in August, ending his time there after a season and a half. General manager Brett Veach said the Chiefs “really like the kid” but suggested he may not have been committed enough to his offseason routine.

“Sometimes you can turn bad luck into good luck by doing a few little things in the offseason to take care of your body,” the GM told reporters. “I think that’s a process he’s going through right now. It’s certainly not for a lack of talent. … If he’s able to improve some of the things in the offseason and get his body right, I think he’s going to go out there and make a lot of plays for another team.”

It was, of course, telling when the New York Giants traded Toney to Kansas City in October 2022, less than two years after selecting him 20th overall in the NFL Draft. Still, his highlight reel left many people hopeful about what he would do in a Patrick Mahomes-led offense.

Toney ultimately caught just 41 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns in 20 regular season games. He at least wrote his name in franchise history with his touchdown catch that gave Kansas City a 28-27 lead in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII. His 65-yard punt return a few minutes later set up the next point.

It’s much harder to believe in Toney’s potential now than it was when he came to the Chiefs. If he couldn’t fulfill his potential with a Super Bowl contender that boasts the best quarterback of his era (Mahomes) and a brilliant offensive playmaker (Andy Reid), he probably won’t be able to do it anywhere else.

Still, Veach isn’t ready to throw in the towel and abandon Toney’s plan to re-orient his career on a new team. And it just takes another GM who shares that optimism.

In the Seahawks’ case, they’re more looking to fill out their receiver room and wouldn’t expect a new addition to take on a big role right away. Seattle knows what to expect from DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, while 2023 first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba could take a big step forward in year two.
