NFL Power Rankings: Week 2 Edition

Now that Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season has concluded, it’s time for an incredibly meaningful and serious exercise: NFL Power Rankings! What sets these rankings apart from all the others is that they are THE only truly accurate rankings in the entire universe. We use a proprietary system that heavily factors sentiment into account. Let’s take a look at how all 32 teams stack up.

BLG’S NFL POWER RANKINGS WEEK 2

– Kansas City Chiefs (Last week: 1) – The defending Super Bowl champions have seemingly lost nothing. If anything, there are signs that they could be more dangerous than last year. Xavier Worthy’s speed is a new element that teams have to contend with.

– Detroit Lions (LW: 3) – Jameson Williams realizes his playmaking potential and gives the Lions a pretty strong one-two punch at the wide receiver position. His explosive power paired with Amon-Ra St. Brown’s ability to move the chain makes this a tough task.

– Baltimore Ravens (LW: 4) – No one ever said this, but… football is a game of inches. Isaiah Likely and the Ravens were reminded of that the hard way. Baltimore will likely still have plenty of success in the regular season, but their offensive line looks to be a problem. Plus, Lamar Jackson will be worn out by the time the playoffs roll around if they continue to rely on him to carry the offense like he did in Week 1.

– Houston Texans (LW: 5) – With Stefon Diggs and Joe Mixon on the team, the Texans have a ton of weapons. It’s impossible to take them all out.

– San Francisco 49ers (LW: 6) – No Christian McCaffrey, no problem. The Niners have been outrunning opponents anyway. CMC’s health could certainly be a long-term concern, but Jordan Mason has San Fran covered in the meantime.

– Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 7) – Jalen Hurts hardly played his best game, but the Eagles offense still managed to put up 34 points and 410 yards. Saquon Barkley’s early results are very encouraging; he looks like he’s going to be the difference maker.

– Buffalo Bills (LW: 8) – They couldn’t cover the spread against Arizona, but Josh Allen was able to ultimately lead his team to victory, as he often does. And he’ll have to continue to do so to make up for a porous defense.

– Green Bay Packers (LW: 2) – Jordan Love’s injury is an unfortunate development for a team that was hoping to compete for the top spot in the NFC playoffs. Malik Willis doesn’t inspire much confidence. They may have to realistically aim for a wild card spot again.

– Miami Dolphins (LW: 11) – Kudos to the Dolphins for their resilience. Late in the third quarter, they were close to trailing 24-7 before Jevon Holland’s forced fumble kicked off their comeback victory. Tyreek Hill can still change the outcome of a game with just one play.

– Dallas Cowboys (LW: 12) – Despite the loss of Dan Quinn, Dallas’ defense still looks to be good under Mike Zimmer. The Cowboys’ pass rush generated a whopping 17 quarterback hits in Week 1.

– Los Angeles Rams (LW: 13) – Despite being banged up, the Rams were able to force the Lions into overtime in Detroit. And that was in part because Sean McVay wasn’t a total coward on fourth down! While they have weaknesses, the Rams will be a tough opponent every week.

– Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 15) – Jim Harbaugh always wins. JK Dobbins was a good addition who was pretty much what the Eagles wanted from Rashaad Penny last year, except in this case it actually works.

– Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 9) – Puzzling result in Week 1. Joe Burrow is now 1-4 in season openers with the only win coming in overtime. It seems like the Bengals just haven’t had a strong start for some reason. Now watch them beat the Chiefs in Week 2 after losing to the Pats.

– New York Jets (LW: 10) – At least Jets fans will always remember that 12-play, 70-yard touchdown drive that gave their team a 7-3 lead over the Niners. Could end up being the highlight of their season. Aaron Rodgers’ return is obviously not the solution to everything.

– Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 16) – A typical hard-fought win for the Steelers with TJ Watt doing the heavy lifting. Pittsburgh secured the win despite not scoring a touchdown. They probably need to get in the end zone more often in the future.

– Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 18) – Baker Mayfield is off to a great start with the Bucs despite the loss of Dave Canales. It really helps to have the consistent Mike Evans as a target.

– Seattle Seahawks (LW: 21) – You can’t tell me the Seahawks didn’t win just because their retro uniforms look really cool. Solid start to the Mike Macdonald era.

– Chicago Bears (LW: 14) – The Bears have dropped four spots since their win, and in a way that doesn’t seem particularly sustainable! 15 of their 24 points (their only touchdowns) came on a blocked punt and an absolute gift of a pick-six. The offense’s 53 plays resulted in just 148 yards, an incredibly poor 2.8 average. Caleb Williams doesn’t look ready to get going right from the start.

– Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 17) – The Jags’ Week 1 loss was a microcosm of last season. They started strong, seemed to be in good position, but then completely collapsed and blew it all. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that two of their other AFC South rivals lost.

– Indianapolis Colts (LW: 20) – Anthony Richardson’s ability to throw the ball far is intriguing; his talent on the throwing arm is obviously something special. However, you usually have to be able to complete a little more than nine passes in a game to actually win.

– New Orleans Saints (LW: 26) – Derek Carr was at his best in Week 1. How much of that was because the Saints were really good and how much was because Carolina was a disaster? We’ll learn a lot more about the Saints when they face Dallas in Week 2.

– Minnesota Vikings (LW: 28) – If you trust Sam Darnold, you do so at your own peril, but he has destroyed the G-Men. The Vikes may be a little more lively than expected.

– Arizona Cardinals (LW: 24) – The Cardinals managed to overcome a difficult situation on the road. But their defense is still bad. So surprising for a team led by Jonathan Gannon.

– Atlanta Falcons (LW: 22) – The good news is that their defense did not allow a single touchdown in Week 1! The less good news is, Kirk Cousins doesn’t seem to be very healthy is recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.

– Tennessee Titans (LW: 25) – Will Levis rescued the loss from the jaws of victory, undoing a great defensive effort led by former Eagles assistant Dennard Wilson, among others.

– Denver Broncos (LW: 23) – Bo Nix averaged 3.3 yards per attempt, threw two interceptions and had a passer rating of 47.5. Once again a rookie quarterback with a rocky start.

– Cleveland Browns (LW: 19) – Deshaun Watson just seems unstoppable. The Cowboys deserve credit for making his job difficult… but Watson also missed some completely open targets. He just couldn’t function. The Browns are totally lost.

– Washington Commanders (LW: 27) – Jayden Daniels did some nice things in his debut, but the Commanders are clearly not ready to compete at a high level.

– New England Patriots (LW: 31) – Jerod Mayo is taking full advantage of the limited talent at his disposal. That’s an encouraging start. But this Patriots team isn’t going away. This Week 1 win could be their highlight of the season.

– Las Vegas Raiders (LW: 29) – Trailing by six points with 7:15 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Antonio Pierce decided to punt on 4th-and-1 at the Chargers’ 43-yard line. The Bolts then went on an 8-play, 92-yard touchdown drive to decide the game. The football gods punished Pierce for his cowardice.

– New York Giants (LW: 30) – Malik Nabers is a cool player who will be good. But that doesn’t matter if you don’t have a quarterback. And it’s entirely possible that the Giants made a mistake by not putting more effort into finding a replacement for Daniel Jones in the 2024 NFL Draft. On the other hand, with a very high pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, maybe they could find his successor!

– Carolina Panthers (LW: 32) – Bryce Young is a bust. The Panthers are an absolute firework. Odds are not good that they go 0-17…but, I don’t know, I guess it’s possible.
