NFL Insider addresses Pittsburgh Steelers-Dolphins trade rumors

PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Steelers are working with Justin Fields as their starting quarterback while Russell Wilson deals with a calf injury. At this point, the team is 3-0 and Fields seems to be winning over not only the fan base, but also his teammates and coaches.

With the idea that Fields could be the long-term starter in Pittsburgh, there was a lot of speculation that the Steelers would trade Wilson. And one team that has emerged as a potential contender is the Miami Dolphins.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he would urge the Dolphins to call up the Steelers for Wilson after losing Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion.

“I would call Pittsburgh and say, ‘What would you like for Russell Wilson?'” Schefter said.

On The Rich Eisen Show, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero said that there have been no discussions between the two teams and that the Dolphins are currently planning to move forward with Tyler “Snoop” Huntley as their starting quarterback.

Miami lost both Tagovailoa and backup Skylar Thompson. That’s because of Huntley, who was signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad last week. The Dolphins remain optimistic that Tagovailoa can return this season, easing their concerns about a quarterback transfer.

Wilson has a no-trade clause in his contract, which makes any move a little more difficult. While Wilson would likely welcome a starting opportunity rather than sit behind Fields, Pittsburgh has not yet named Fields the long-term starter. So if Wilson is healthy, there could be some competition.

Pittsburgh probably wouldn’t trade Wilson without a bigger deal anyway. The team wants to keep two quarterbacks they believe in to protect themselves in the event of an injury. Even though a trade between the Steelers and Dolphins is on everyone’s lips, it’s unlikely that anything will happen.
