NFL commentator apparently makes reference to Taylor Swift and Harry Styles at Chiefs game

Taylor Swift and Harry Styles may have split up over ten years ago, but their previous relationship is far from being out of the spotlight – or “over the hill”.
In fact, NFL commentator Mike Tirico seemed to make a sly reference to Swift’s 1989 song about Styles when commenting on the weather-related delay at the Kansas City Chiefs game on Thursday, September 5 — where the 14-time Grammy winner was in attendance to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce.
“The game has been delayed by about 20 minutes due to weather… no showers are expected for the rest of the night,” Tirico announced in the first quarter of the game.

Of course, fans immediately took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to comment on the announcer’s possible lyric breakdown.
“THEY JUST SAID ‘HELP COME OUT OF THE FOREST,'” one Swiftie wrote in all caps.
“Okay but did he say ‘Out of the Woods’ because that’s what Swiftism is or just because it’s a saying,” another fan asked.
“Not out of the woods yet when it comes to showering,” wrote a third person alongside a GIF of Rihanna with the caption, “I see what you did there.”
“Out of the Woods” — together with other 1989 Songs like “Style” and additional bonus tracks — have long been suspected of being from Swift’s romance with Styles, which lasted less than a year between 2012 and 2013. (The lyric “two paper airplanes flying” appears to be a reference to the musicians’ matching airplane chains; while “Remember when you hit the brakes too soon / twenty stitches in the hospital room” is widely believed to be a reference to the former One Direction singer’s snowmobile accident.)
While Tirico is far from the only NFL pundit to reference Swift since she began dating Kelce in the summer of 2023, his mention of “Out of the Woods” garnered even more attention due to Swift’s performance at the Chiefs’ first game of the season.
The “Love Story” artist, dressed in a matching denim suit – denim shorts and a denim top – along with red thigh-high boots and a friendship bracelet gifted to her by a fan, immediately went viral when she showed up to Thursday’s game, where she was later spotted chatting with Travis’ father, Ed Kelce.
