New York City Service Workers Union among grant recipients

FEDERAL – THREE WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ORGANIZATIONS WILL RECEIVE $646 MILLION IN GRANTS OVER THE NEXT THREE YEARS TO IMPLEMENT THE CATALOGUE PATHWAYS WORKSHOPS TRAINING PROGRAM TO RECRUIT AND TRAIN THOUSANDS OF NEW HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, AND SOCIAL SERVICES WORKERS Across New York City. In making the announcement on Thursday, August 15, Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized that the program will also provide new opportunities for career advancement for many current health care workers across the state.

The awardees are New York-based 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds, the Iroquois Healthcare Association and the Finger Lakes Performing Provider System. The three Workforce Investment Organizations will use the funds to conduct outreach and recruit thousands of new and current health, mental health and human services workers to participate in the Career Pathways Training Program; to support CPT program participants with tutoring and other academic support such as apprenticeship and mentorship programs; to make payments to assist participants with tuition, textbooks and materials; to assist with job preparation and placement to fulfill service obligations; and to partner with educational institutions and other stakeholders to enhance the career opportunities of CPT program participants, among other actions.
