New truck replaces 30-year-old tanker

Children in George Street had a successful lemonade stand

The Clyde Fire Department has a new 2025 Fouts Fire tanker with a 2,000 gallon capacity.

The fire engine was built in Milledgeville, Georgia and purchased for $359,572.

It replaces a 30-year-old truck that had a water tank that was over 50 years old.

“The old tanker just didn’t meet today’s National Fire Protection Association standards and it was time to take it out of service,” said Clyde Fire Department Chief Paul Fiser. The new tanker is custom built and equipped with a 1,000 GPM Hale fire pump. The old tanker is being sold on GovDeals.org. The new tanker will be stored downtown in Station 1 behind City Hall, 222 N. Main St. Look for it at the Clyde Fair Parade on Sept. 21.

Firefighters visit Clyde Library

A few weeks ago, the Clyde Fire Department participated in the Clyde Public Library’s summer reading program. They brought a fire truck to the library parking lot, where Firefighter Tyler Tea read a story to the children outside. They then took a tour of the fire truck with the help of other firefighters.

The CFD will host the Northwest Ohio Volunteer Fighter’s Association’s annual golf outing this Saturday, Aug. 10, at Green Hills Golf Course. After the outing opened to the public, the Clyde community signed up and more teams signed up. Starting Tuesday, 32 teams will be playing in an extremely large outing, Fiser said.

Children sell lemonade on George Street

A lemonade stand held Monday on George Street was a success for two elementary school students. It’s an annual event for Emma and Grayson Browning, said their mother, Missy Morales. One year, their proceeds benefited the Humane Society, and in June, they benefited Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

This time, the children earned their own pocket money. The afternoon lemonade stand was so busy that Morales had to buy more lemonade shortly after opening. Later, customers came from work at the Whirlpool Corporation, a block away. The children attend Clyde-Green Springs Elementary School, where Emma will be in fifth grade and Grayson will be in second grade.

The school year in Clyde-Green Springs begins on August 27

The Clyde-Green Springs Exempted School District school calendar has been created for the 2024-25 school year. The first day of school is August 27. The last day of school is May 28, 2024, with graduation on May 18.

School holidays are Labor Day (September 2), Martin Luther King Day (January 20, 2025), Presidents’ Day (February 17, 2025), and Good Friday (April 18, 2025). Fall break is November 25-29, winter break is December 23-January 3, 2025, and spring break is March 17-21, 2025.

With school starting soon, August 18 will be the last day the Clyde Aquatic Center will be open this year. “It’s been a good season during the hot summer months,” said Brooklyn Root, pool manager.

Many young people expressed interest in becoming lifeguards, and according to Dave Lozier, who runs the operation there, 16 of them were hired.
