New self-service waste collection point opened in Gardere; here is a list of accepted items

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – East Baton Rouge Parish has a new facility where residents can dispose of hazardous materials and trash.

Mayor Sharon Weston Broome announced that the new Gardere self-service non-perishable solid waste collection site has officially opened its doors. It is located at 7900 Starwood Court in Baton Rouge.

The new collection point is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Since this is a self-service site, all waste must be unloaded manually into roll-off containers. The facility is designed to transport waste in pickup trucks, passenger cars and small trailers. Tipper trailers and commercial vehicles are not permitted.

Upon arrival, residents must present a valid driver’s license or utility bill to prove their residency in East Baton Rouge Parish before dumping their trash. A staff member will be on-site during open hours to assist you and ensure compliance with facility rules.

The attachment accepted various types of non-perishable household waste, including:

  • Bulky household waste (such as furniture, bicycles and toys)
  • scrap metal
  • Empty car parts
  • Tree cuttings and garden waste (with restrictions; no whole trees/large tree parts, stumps, etc.)
  • Construction debris generated by the homeowner (limited amounts; flooring from a single room, toilets, boards/parts)

Materials that are not accepted The facility includes:

  • Perishable household waste (e.g. food waste, dead animals)
  • Commercial/industrial solids
  • White goods (including appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, water heaters or air conditioners)
  • Electronic waste (including televisions, stereos and game consoles)
  • Medical waste
  • Tires and hazardous substances
  • Batteries
  • Liquid solid waste
  • Asbestos-contaminated materials
  • Construction waste
  • Roofing waste

Residents are asked to full list of accepted and unaccepted materials and familiarize yourself with the facility’s rules before your visit. The facility’s rules are designed to ensure safe, efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal.

This new facility is part of Mayor Broome’s broader “Brighten Up Baton Rouge” initiative to combat blight and improve waste management throughout Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish. By providing residents with a convenient, centralized location to dispose of waste, the City-Parish aims to reduce illegal dumping and improve the cleanliness and appearance of our neighborhoods.
