Apple has been rapidly expanding its services business in recent years. The company has developed so many services that it now offers a subscription package so that it at least seems logical for customers to subscribe to all of them.
If you want to buy a service from Apple, you now have a lot of choice. You can choose between Apple Music for music, Apple TV+ for movies and TV shows, Apple Arcade for video games, Apple News+ for magazines and newspapers, Apple Fitness+ for guided workouts, and iCloud for… storage?
Although iCloud is the least exciting service Apple offers as part of its Apple One subscription package, this unsung hero appears to continue to be the company’s most popular service among customers. A new report from CIRP (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners) reveals that 64% of Apple customers pay for iCloud.
iCloud dominates paid services
This is probably not what you expected! You might think that a service like Apple Music or Apple TV+ would have the edge when it comes to services, but good old iCloud is the most popular.
However, Apple Music comes in second place, with 42% of customers paying for the music streaming service. Apple Podcasts has a 37% customer penetration and is in third place, even though Apple doesn’t yet have Apple Podcasts+. Apple TV+ is in fourth place with 32% and Apple News+ is in fifth place with 27%. CIRP didn’t have numbers for Apple Arcade or Apple News+.
While it may seem boring that iCloud is at the top of the list for Apple’s service business, it makes perfect sense. iCloud is not an optional service, but rather a necessity. With all the photos and videos people take with their iPhones these days, you need iCloud storage to make sure you don’t lose it if your iPhone breaks.
So, enjoy your crown, iCloud.
