New England Patriots lose OT thriller against Seahawks

The New England Patriots were eliminated in Week 2 despite their best efforts to defeat the Seattle Seahawks at home.

A thrill from start to finish. The Patriots scored the first points with a five-yard touchdown pass from Jacoby Brissett to Ja’Lynn Polk. Two minutes later, the Seahawks also scored a point with a 56-yard pass from Geno Smith to DK Metcalf.

The Patriots scored two field goals in the second quarter but fell behind by four points at halftime. Thanks to a short 1-yard run by Zach Charbonnet and a last-second field goal, Seattle went into halftime with a 17-13 lead over New England.

After the break, neither team managed to score any points and so they remained pointless in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Rhamondre Stevenson scored a one-yard touchdown to give the Seahawks a 20-17 lead, but with 55 seconds left, Jason Myers tied the game with a 38-yard field goal and sent this Week 2 battle into overtime.

The Patriots had the ball first in overtime, but couldn’t convert on a third-and-1 attempt and punted to the Seahawks. After an improper pass interference penalty, Seattle lined up on the Patriots’ side of the 50-yard line. And from there, a couple of successful passes set them up for a game-winning field goal, and they lost 23-20 in Week 2.

Brisset finished the game completing 15 of 27 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Antonio Gibson led the backfield with 96 yards and Hunter Henry finished the game with eight catches for 109 yards.
