New England Patriots’ Drake Maye makes NFL debut

After the New England Patriots fell significantly behind in the fourth quarter of their Thursday Night Football game against the New York Jets, the team decided to give rookie quarterback Drake Maye a chance.

After a long wait, Maye was finally able to see the playing field.

In the short time he was on the field, Maye completed four of his eight pass attempts for 22 yards and was also sacked twice.

Jacoby Brissett and the Patriots offense looked bad all game long. It was nice to see the rookie get some playing time.

Despite not earning the starting spot in Week 1, Maye is considered the future of the franchise, having flashed his strong and accurate arm during the preseason.

It will be interesting to see how the quarterback situation plays out going forward. Most likely, Brissett will be back in the starting lineup in Week 4, but Jerod Mayo may have to consider a change at some point.

New England hasn’t shown much passing through the first three weeks, and if they’re willing to give the rookie a chance, he could make them a more dangerous all-around offensive unit.

Unfortunately, the Patriots dropped to 1-2 with their loss to the Jets. Things have come back down to earth after their big upset in Week 1.

New England is not expected to make the playoffs this season. With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, they can afford to take their time. However, getting him some playing time this season would be valuable for his development and his future.

Those replays started tonight and it will be interesting to see when the next action he sees will be.
