Nev Schulman is lucky to be alive after a bicycle accident

Nev Schulman said he was “lucky” to be alive after revealing he broke his neck in an accident involving his bicycle and a truck on Monday.

The Catfish: The TV Show The presenter shared on Instagram on Saturday that he was on his way to pick up his son from school when the accident happened.

“I never made it to pick up my son from school on his bike,” he wrote in the post’s caption. “In some ways, I’m actually glad I didn’t make it. I was alone at impact. Me and the truck. And then, I guess, the sidewalk. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious again. Maybe I was OK (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t).”

Schulman added that he was fortunately “not paralyzed” and suffered stable fractures in his neck area. “I broke my neck. C5 and C6, to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed,” he explained. “My hands were a question mark for a minute, but the human body is incredible and so are PEOPLE.”

Elsewhere in his Instagram post, which included photos of him in the hospital and X-rays of his neck, Dancing with the stars The graduate expressed his sincere gratitude to the medical team that cared for him.

“The incredible knowledge and care of everyone in the medical community was so remarkable. From EMS to the emergency room in Southampton to the intensive care unit in Stony Brook,” he wrote. “It’s hard for me to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors how many people with similar injuries will never walk again.”

Schulman said the accident showed him how “life can change in an instant” and made him especially grateful for memories made during a family fishing trip on Sunday, the day before the accident.

“I’m lucky to be here, to be alive, to hug my family and to be expected to make a full recovery. And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude,” he said. “For the big and small things before the accident and now for everything moving forward.”

The producer continued: “We had no plans to go fishing last Sunday and my instinct told me to say no to a day trip. But looking back a week later, I’m glad I said yes.”
