Netflix no longer supports iPhones with iOS 16

After Netflix discontinued its app for the third-generation Apple TV, the company has just confirmed that it will soon end support for some old iPhones and iPads. More specifically, the company will no longer provide updates compatible with devices running iOS 16.

Netflix discontinues support for iOS 16

The latest update to the Netflix app for iOS warned users about the end of support for iOS 16. Devices such as the iPhone X and first-generation iPad Pro, among others, cannot be updated to iOS 17 and therefore no longer run the latest version of Netflix.

“We updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later,” says an alert that appears on devices running the Netflix app on iOS 16.

Currently, iOS 16 users can still ignore the warning and continue using the Netflix app, but in the future it should stop working. App updates not only add new features but also include bug fixes and security patches.

Please note that the following devices cannot be updated to iOS 17 and higher:

  • iPhone8
  • iPhone 8 Plus
  • iPhone7
  • iPad5 (2017)
  • iPad Pro 1st generation

If you own one of these devices and are a Netflix user, it may be time to think about buying a new phone or tablet. The Netflix app is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
