Nebraska Cornhuskers sweep the weekend in comeback games

The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball suffered probably their worst defeat of the last decade earlier this week. Now it’s time to bounce back from that defeat and show they can maintain last year’s killer approach.

While they weren’t infallible, the Huskers’ two wins this weekend, both sweeps, could show they’re ready to become the team everyone expected in 2024. However, there’s still a lot of work to do and building to do.

After sweeping The Citadel on Thursday, the Huskers swept Montana State on Saturday afternoon: 25-19, 25-15, 25-10. NU is now 5-1 on the season. The final set against MSU could be a sign that the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is not yet on its game.

As we have seen many times in recent games, head coach John Cook varied the lineup, having Taylor Landfair play for Harper Murray at the wing in set 2 and Landfair play for Lindsay Krause in set 3. We also saw Leyla Blackwell play in the middle for Rebekah Allick.

Some may have been worried that all the back and forth would hurt NU’s on-court chemistry, but the players seem to be adjusting to it. It also shows that Cook knows he has so much talent on his roster that he might as well put it to full use.

Of course, the Huskers’ regular players were also in action against Montana State. Harper Murray led all attackers with 11 kills and a very impressive batting average of .400 that day.

Andi Jackson and Rebekah Allick combined for 13 kills. They both also had a batting average of .500.

Bergen Reilly had 37 assists and was tied with Lexi Rodriguez for the team’s highest assists with eight.

The wins on Thursday and Saturday mean the Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball team is officially back on track heading into next week. Now it’s time to find the same gear as last season, as the schedule soon becomes significantly more demanding, starting with a game on Tuesday against Creighton.
