NBC cuts back on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon – the latest blow to late-night television

NBC officially cuts The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon The broadcast time was increased from five to four evenings per week, with repeats on Friday evenings.
The important decision comes just a few months after the station announced that it would remove the house band from the program. Late Night with Seth Meyers due to budget cuts.
Over the last few seasons, Fallon has managed to stay ahead of his competition, including ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!CBS The Late Night Show with Stephen Colbert and Comedy Central’s The daily showonly four are recorded per week.
Late Night with Seth Meyers also only aired four original episodes per week.
As late-night viewership has declined in recent years, broadcasters have been forced to take these cost-cutting measures.
“Unfortunately, that’s the reality of broadcasting and a shrinking market – streaming eats here and YouTube eats there,” Late Night with Seth MeyersEli Janney, deputy music director, commented on the budget cuts in June.
“Streaming doesn’t make any money either. So budgets have been cut more and more everywhere. I compare it to a Spotify moment in music, where suddenly nobody wants to pay for music anymore. Music is losing value.”
Nevertheless, Fallon’s show was renewed by NBC earlier this year and will run until 2028.
The 49-year-old Fallon initially appeared The Tonight Show in 2014 and took over as moderator after Jay Leno resigned.
Previously he was an actor in Saturday Night Live from 1998 to 2004. Fallon has since expanded his late-night portfolio to include NBC game shows password And That’s my thing.
He is also the author of several books and recently published his latest children’s book, 5 more sleeps until Halloween.

Last month, the presenter brutally mocked Australian breakdancer Raygun, who faced heavy criticism for her unconventional moves at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Raygun, real name Rachel Gunn, has since spoken out about the widespread criticism of her routine, saying she knew “people wouldn’t understand my style and what I was going to do.”
“I wanted to bring out some Australian moves and themes. I love our Olympic mascot BK, the boxing kangaroo, and I wanted to show that. That’s the wonderful thing about breakdancing. You can get inspiration from any source,” she said in an interview on the Australian news program The project.
New episodes of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Airs Monday through Thursday at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
