National Weather Service confirms tornado hit parts of Ulster County

The National Weather Service said an EF-0 tornado touched down and crossed the New York State Thruway late Friday afternoon.

Video shows the storm reaching parts of New Paltz near New Paltz High School. The tornado stayed on the ground for only a short time, uprooting several trees in its path.

According to NBC, the tornado touched down near Exit 18 on the Thruway. Although no tornado warning was issued, it was most likely the same storm that triggered a tornado warning in Orange County on Friday, meteorologists report.

The recent storms came after the National Weather Service spent weeks monitoring a record number of tornadoes occurring the week of July 15, including a strong EF-2 tornado that devastated parts of Rome, NY, and the remnants of Hurricane Beryl, which spawned seven tornadoes in New York in early July.
