National Grid Update on Service Restoration Following Impacts of Tropical Storm Debby

National Grid released an update Saturday morning on the timeline for restoring service following the impact of the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby on New York State.

They say they continue to work around the clock to restore service and conduct cleanup operations after heavy rains and destructive winds hit the area.

National Grid says power has been restored to more than 78,000 of the 92,000 affected customers.

They say local authorities and rescue workers continue to coordinate with them on reconstruction efforts, which include clearing debris.

National Grid officials say the hardest hit areas in eastern New York state are Fulton, Hamilton, Saratoga, Schenectady, Columbia, Rensselaer, Essex, Warren and Washington counties.

According to National Grid, power is expected to be restored to most customers by 11:30 p.m. Saturday. However, in hard-to-reach areas, isolated power outages may be experienced by individual customers that last through Sunday.

Kyle Bentley, senior director of New York Electric Operations, made this statement:

“The safety of our employees and customers is our top priority. Our teams are exposed to hazardous conditions while clearing debris and gaining access to repair damage and restore power. We will do everything in our power to complete the restoration as quickly and safely as possible.”

NewsChannel 13 will continue to cover the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Debby and recovery in our region.
