Nashville (8-14-9, 33 points) hosts DC United (8-13-10, 34 points) in its final home game of the regular season as it seeks its fifth MLS playoff appearance in as many league seasons. The gap to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference is four points with three games left to play.

For the first time in 2024, Nashville enters a game in imminent danger of elimination. The top nine teams in the East advance to the playoffs, and Toronto FC, Philadelphia Union and CF Montréal are tied for eighth place with 37 points each. If Nashville loses and two of Toronto (against the New York Red Bulls), Philadelphia (at Orlando City) and Montreal (at Atlanta United) win on Wednesday, Nashville would be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Nashville kept its playoff hopes alive by collecting seven points in three games against Atlanta, the Chicago Fire and FC Cincinnati two weeks ago. But a loss to the New England Revolution on Saturday dashed those hopes.

DC United defeated Nashville 2-1 at Audi Field on July 13, scoring two goals in four minutes early in the second half.
