NASCAR rumor: Insider hints at Corey LaJoie being demoted from the Truck Series, fans cheer

At the beginning of the Olympic break, when some NASCAR drivers went on vacation and got married, Corey LaJoie was fired from Spire Motorsports. The team is on a restructuring mission and aims to compete for the championship in the 2025 season. As part of that process, new staff has been hired, including championship-winning crew chief Rodney Childers.

As for the No. 7’s plans for the 2025 season, they are uncertain. Many speculate that he could move to a lower series, either Xfinity or Truck. Although they are just rumors, fans seem excited to have a second Corey in the Truck Series.

Corey LaJoie to the Truck Series?

LaJoie’s Cup Series career has been marked by inconsistency. Despite seven seasons, he has only managed four top-five finishes, with his best finish being a fourth-place finish with Spire Motorsports. The 2024 season has been more of the same: LaJoie has gone winless and is currently in 28th place with a single top-five finish. As a result, the playoffs are out of reach for both LaJoie and Spire Motorsports, prompting the team to seek a major restructuring for the 2025 season.

Is Corey LaJoie’s alleged demotion the best thing that could happen to NASCAR this year? React!

Do you remember what Spire wrote in her farewell statement?

There are always variables in racing, but one thing we all know is it’s a performance-based business, and that just wasn’t there for a variety of reasons. All of those reasons are taken into account when it comes to making a decision of this magnitude.” And they made a performance-based decision, leaving LaJoie stuck between the various ranks of NASCAR.

Now the rumors say: “The Truck Series will have two drivers named Corey in 2025.” According to popular NASCAR insider “BrakeHard”’s post on X, there is speculation that LaJoie is another Corey alongside No. 11 driver Corey Heim, who is currently No. 2 in the Truck Series. But at least for the starters, LaJoie could be aiming high and taking inspiration from Heim and his performance this season.

LaJoie’s plans for next season remain uncertain. Perhaps a move to Tier 3 as BrakeHard has suggested? The few runs he has had in the Truck Series have been decent. At the Daytona race he was in contention for the win once; he was in the lead but was unable to finish the race as he crashed out. A demotion for Corey could prove beneficial to him as he could aim for some wins, perhaps a championship, and then return to Cup with that boosted confidence.

But it seems like a difficult situation for him to return to Spire Motorsports. In a recent episode of SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, co-owner Jeff Dickerson made this clear by saying: “We have to win. You don’t do something like this without winning. You don’t do Rodney. You don’t try to outdo Corey. You don’t bring in some of the guys we brought in behind the scenes, you know, without, you know what I mean?”

As part of the redesign, Rodney Childers was brought in, and there are also rumors that Justin Haley will take over the No. 7 car. Some people speculate: would the duo of Rodney and LaJoie have been successful? Maybe, maybe not! But the train seems to have left the station.

What’s surprising, however, is that even Corey LaJoie doesn’t think a demotion is an option for him. However, there are no teams lining up to take him. In a previous episode of his podcast “Stacking Pennies,” he said: “There is no Xfinity program where someone calls someone else to drive for free and get paid for it.” Again, his statistics are to blame. In his entire career, he has only achieved 4 top-5 and 9 top-10 finishes in all NASCAR series. Nothing is certain yet. But fans like the idea of LaJoie coming to Truck.

Fans want to see Corey LaJoie in the Truck Series

A demotion isn’t always a bad thing. In this case in particular, it could even benefit the No. 7. One fan thinks the Truck Series is the perfect place for it, writing: “To be honest, Corey LaJoie is a perfect fit for the Truck Series. I think if he gets on a good team, he’ll be a contender in this series.” Another fan expressed the same opinion and wrote: “He should be a championship contender, and if not, he’ll prove all the haters right.”

If he does indeed move into the Truck Series, what options are open to him? Could Spire bring him back? They have a successful team here with Rajah Caruth at the helm. Maybe he can replace rookie Chase Purdy, who didn’t have the best season in 2024 either. One fan who thinks along the same lines wrote: “If Corey LaJoie moves to trucks, would it make more sense for him to sign with Spire’s truck team?” One fan thought another possible team option could be Hendrick Motorsports. He wrote: “Corey Day in a Hendrick truck.”

Rumor has it that there will be confirmation soon about LaJoie’s future in NASCAR, but what team do you think he is likely to join?
