In the heart of Feud: Capote vs. the Swans was the friendship between Babe Paley and Truman Capote, so it only makes sense that both Naomi Watts and Tom Hollander were nominated for an Emmy for their performances in the miniseries.
Babe and Truman, said Watts Terms and Conditions“had this deep friendship, an exchange of love and pain. I know Babe trusted him almost immediately. He showed his vulnerabilities; she felt safe to show hers. I think there was a gap in her life. She needed this person at this exact time in her life after suffering in a lonely, loveless marriage in which (her husband Bill Paley) caused her a lot of pain. So (Truman) came along, he’s smart, he taught her literature and art, and he was also playful and funny and silly and sassy — that was a side of her that she didn’t have, that she couldn’t put out in the world. She had to be this graceful wife, this wife who worked hard to make everything look good and make people feel good. Something about their relationship was very unique.”
Arriving at the Emmys tonight, Watts looked elegant in a green dress, exuding the socialite personality she played so elegantly, and accessorized with Harry Winston Diamond Links earrings.
On the red carpet, Watts was accompanied by her husband Billy Crudup, who himself is known for his role in The morning show.
Tonight, Watts is nominated for an Emmy for the first time (“I’ve never had a nomination before, so I was pretty proud,” she said). The Australian actress will compete against Jodie Foster in the category of Lead Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie. True Detective: Nightland, Brie Larson for Chemistry lessons, Juno Temple for Fargo, And Sofia Vergara for Griselda.
Feud: Capote vs. the Swans received ten nominations in total, including four for the acting performances of Watts, Hollander, Diane Lane and the late Treat Williams. Last weekend, the show won the award for best period costumes for a miniseries or anthology series or a movie at the Creative Arts Emmys.
