MyPillow guy doubles price of pillows with Nazi symbolism

Conspiracy theorist and pillow seller Mike Lindell is raising the price of a controversial pillow even further after selling some of his products for $14.88, a figure considered symbolic of white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow, had promoted the reduced price in various social media posts on Friday.

“Sleep like a dream with our standard MyPillow for only $14.88!” the posts said.

On X (formerly Twitter), Lindell received thousands of comments criticizing the award for its similarity to “1488,” a code used by hate groups.

Among white supremacists, “14” is an abbreviation for a 14-word racist slogan, while “88” refers to an abbreviation of “Heil Hitler,” since H is the eighth letter of the alphabet.

After HuffPost reported on the MyPillow award on Saturday, Lindell defended himself on the right-wing Christian television show “FlashPoint.”

“I want everyone to know: No, I am not a Nazi,” Lindell said in Monday’s episode of the show. “That was an attack on MyPillow over the weekend.”

Lindell said he “used a range of price points,” including $14.88, “similar to what Walmart does when they have a sale.” He suggested he didn’t know what the price might represent when his company set it.

But after Lindell indicated that he now knew what “1488” symbolized, he decided to raise the price again.

“Some media outlets called me (and asked), ‘Are you going to apologize and take it down?’ I said, ‘No, I’m going to go one better!'” Lindell said. “The sale is on!”

Since Friday, Lindell and MyPillow have promoted the $14.88 price several more times, including on Wednesday. In addition to X, graphics featuring the price have appeared on social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.

Lindell, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, regularly spreads conspiracy theories and falsely claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump.

During his appearance on “FlashPoint,” Lindell said his company had come under “attack” for its attempts to “rig our electoral programs,” and suggested the same is true of this latest controversy.

“This is another attack on MyPillow because their CEO wants to switch to hand-counted ballots,” Lindell said.

“It’s just so crazy what they’re doing to me and what they’re doing to MyPillow,” he added.

A MyPillow spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment. Lindell could not be reached for comment.
