Muncie man fatally injured in accident on Ind. 67 on Tuesday

MUNCIE, Indiana – A local man was killed and another victim was seriously injured in a crash Tuesday morning on Indiana 67 northeast of Muncie.

Richard S. Meadows, 62, of Muncie, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near the Muncie Dragway along Indiana 67 southwest of Albany, according to Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene.

According to Jeff Stanley, deputy sheriff with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department, emergency dispatchers received a report of a “serious injury accident” at that location at 5:53 a.m.

Sheriff’s officials found a Hyundai Elantra in the middle of the highway “with severe front-end damage,” Stanley said.

A Ford Mustang had left the south side of the road and overturned. Its driver – later identified as Meadows – was thrown from the vehicle.

Greene said Deputy Coroner Gary Vannatta arrived at the scene and an autopsy will be performed Wednesday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

The male driver of the Elantra was flown by rescue helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

The sheriff’s accident reconstruction team is investigating the death.

Delaware County EMS, the Delaware County Coroner’s Office and the Albany Fire Department also responded.
