MSMS students begin work on Tales from the Crypt

COLUMBUS, Mississippi (WCBI) – Students bring their research to life.

Students from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science began their year-long research project, “Tales from the Crypt,” at the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library.

The students had the opportunity to take a look into the archives.

MSMS Chuck Yarborough tells us that students choose a person buried in Friendship Cemetery, research their life, and write a monologue.

Some students will have the opportunity to perform at the pilgrimage.

“The students are researching selected documents from individuals from pre-1940s America here in Lowndes County,” Yarborough said.

“I’m excited to dive deeper into the documents and things like that. In other history courses, you might just get a history textbook to look at, but here we get to actually research the original documents that contain specific information we’re looking for,” said Ross Chism, MSMS student.

The performances will take place in April at Friendship Cemetery.
