Mountaineer Athletics hosts the fourth annual Youth Sports Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – WVU’s Center for Applied Coaching and Sport Sciences is partnering with Mountaineer Athletics to host the fourth annual Youth Sports Day on Saturday, September 7 at the Capterton Indoor Practice Facility, featuring the West Virginia Mountaineers taking on the Albany Great Danes. Youth Sports Day is sponsored by UScellular.

Youth Sports Day is designed to educate the public about quality youth sports programs and convey the importance of sports tryouts in developing the athletic skills and fitness needed for youth to participate in sports programs, said Kristen Dieffenbach, professor of coaching and performance science in the College of Applied Human Sciences.

“We are focused on encouraging lifelong engagement in sport and recreational activities,” Dieffenbach added. “Youth Sport Day provides WVU students studying coaching and sport science the opportunity to connect with children and families in the community and share best practices for encouraging youth engagement in sport,” Dieffenbach added.

“This is a great event for fans and young athletes to have fun, learn new skills and support their favorite WVU players,” said Nakeita Stewart, UScellular’s Mid-Atlantic sales manager. “Our mission is to help people connect with what matters most to them and this event brings the local community together to promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles and teamwork.”

All Youth Sports Day attendees will receive discounted tickets to the game as well as group seating to experience the excitement together. Tickets start at $40 each. The first 300 kids to register will receive an exclusive WVU Youth Sports Day hat courtesy of UScellular.

Young athletes will receive an invitation to exclusive pre-match activities at the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility, adjacent to the south-west gate of Milan Puskar Stadium. Coaches, family and friends are welcome and will receive the same discounted rate.
